LAS CRUCES, NM – A moped rider collided with a vehicle driven by a Dona Ana County Sheriff’s deputy Monday morning, KVIA reports.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the cause of the crash, which occurred in the area of West Picacho Avenue and Motel Boulevard.

The collision occurred as the deputy was driving to work at about 5:30 a.m. The man riding the moped was transported to a hospital, but no information was released on his condition.

The deputy was reported to have had a negative result on a blood alcohol contest test, which is normally done whenever a deputy is involved in an accident.
