QUAY COUNTY, NM – The New Mexico State Police have released details of a deadly motorcycle crash in Quay County on Saturday afternoon.

State police responded to the scene on New Mexico State Road 209 south of Tucumcari at about 12:30 p.m.  Investigators determined that 63-year-old Michael Jay Hair was driving a Harley Davidson motorcycle north when a gust of wind is believed to have caused the motorcycle to go off the roadway.

The motorcycle crashed in the dirt shoulder and the rider was thrown from the bike. Hair, a resident of Post, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet at the time, authorities said.

New Mexico State Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
