TAOS COUNTY, NM – The Taos County Sheriff’s Office said a driver died following a rollover crash on Highway 522 early Sunday morning.
The sheriff’s office reported that the incident occurred around mile marker 12 just north of the turnoff for San Cristobal, and that first responders arrived at the scene at about 2:20 a.m.
Authorities said a driver was headed south when the vehicle drifted off the right side of the road and went up an embankment. The vehicle overturned several times, causing the driver to be ejected. The victim, believed to have been a Taos resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the sheriff’s office, speed and impairment are being considered as contributing factors in the wreck. The driver was not wearing a seat belt.
