News: Driver dies after car collides with semi-tractor trailer in Clovis

CLOVIS, NM – A driver died when his car collided with a semi-tractor trailer in Clovis Sunday morning, Eastern New Mexico News reports.

Police responded to the area of First Street and Prince Street after the accident was reported at 7:39 a.m.

Officers found a Lincoln Town Car and semi-tractor trailer in the roadway. Investigators said the Lincoln had driven under the trailer being towed by the semi, and was gong at a rate of speed that caused the top of the car to be sheared off.

The driver of the car, 37-year-old Clifford Baca, sustained fatal injuries.  A passenger in the car, a 37-year-old woman, was seriously injured and transported to a hospital in Lubbock.

The accident is under investigation by the Clovis Police Department Major Crash Team.
