ALBUQUERQUE, NM – A woman has been arrested in connection with a fatal crash in Albuquerque on March 12, according to the Albuquerque Journal.

56-year-old Donna Helgesen has been charged with homicide by motor vehicle.  The accident occurred in the area of Paseo del Norte Boulevard and Browning Street.  According to a criminal complaint, Helgesen was driving a Mazda at over 100 miles an hour when the car rear-ended another vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle, 62-year-old Rick Rivera, was pronounced dead at the scene. Helgesen and her passenger were hospitalized.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office said it was initially unclear who was driving the Mazda, but DNA tests confirmed it was Helgesen who was behind the wheel.
