ROSWELL, NM – Police arrested one of the drivers involved in a car accident in Roswell Thursday morning. According to the Roswell Daily Record, two vehicles collided in the vicinity of East Vista Parkway and North Main Street at about 11:49 a.m.
Police said 62-year-old Michael Whitt of Roswell was driving north on North Main Street when he attempted to make a left turn onto West Vista Parkway. His vehicle collided with another vehicle, whose driver said he could not stop in time.
The man driving the second vehicle and his female passenger sustained minor injuries and were taken to Eastern New Mexico Medical Center.
Whitt was reportedly seen running away from the crash and was taken into custody later. He now faces multiple charges, including leaving the scene of an accident, no great bodily harm or death, and failure to yield right-of-way while intending to turn left. Whitt pleaded not guilty to all charges and told investigators he left the scene on foot so he could go home and get his driver’s license. He was released on his own recognizance.
