GALLUP, NM – Authorities said the driver of a pickup truck crashed into the home of a family in Gallup last week, according to KOB.

Police and firefighters responded to the scene after the vehicle went right through the living room of the Hudgeons family, a couple and their young daughter. No one was home at the time and no residents were injured, but the home sustained major damage. Surveillance cameras showed the family’s dogs narrowly escaped the crash.

Investigators said the driver of the truck was distracted and speeding at the time of the incident, and said no effort had been made to apply the brakes. The occupants of the pickup sustained minor injuries but refused transport to the hospital.

The family was displaced for the night as crews surveyed the damage to their home. Authorities said the incident served as another reminder of the hazards of distracted driving.
