SANTA FE, NM – A couple was arrested and charged following a single-vehicle crash in Santa Fe County that severely injured a young girl, according to the Santa Fe New Mexican.
32-year-old Christian Zuriel Veliz-Vasquez was allegedly driving drunk on U.S. 84/285 south of Española when the accident occurred Sunday evening. Veliz-Vasquez was driving with his girlfriend, 23-year-old Adilene Mingura, and Mingura’s 5-year-old daughter.
The child was ejected following the crash and was taken to University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque with serious injuries. Witnesses said Veliz-Vasquez fled the scene on foot. He was apprehended later at a trailer park, and he and Mingura were both taken to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center.
Veliz-Vasquez faces several charges, including aggravated DWI, leaving the scene of an accident, and child abuse with great bodily harm. Mingura was also charged with child abuse as well as failure to place child in restraint device or seatbelt.
