ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The Albuquerque Police Department says it is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian that occurred early Thursday morning.

In a news release, police said officers responded to the scene at the intersection of Girard Boulevard SE and Vail Avenue SE at about 4 a.m. An investigation determined that a pedestrian was crossing Girard Boulevard from west to east and was struck by a gray older model sedan that was headed north on Girard Street. The pedestrian, whose identity was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the driver of the sedan fled the scene going north after the crash. It is not yet known whether speed or alcohol were contributing factors in the incident.
