ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Police said a pedestrian accident in Albuquerque Tuesday evening left a 7-year-old critically injured, KRQE reports.
The incident took place as the boy was walking on Lead Avenue near Carlisle Boulevard shortly before 5 p.m. Witnesses told police the child walking on the sidewalk when he turned to his left, stepped into the roadway, and was hit by a Dodge Charger. The witnesses said the driver of the Charger applied the brakes but could not stop in time to avoid the collision.
The victim was reported to be in critical condition after being transported to University of New Mexico Hospital. Albuquerque police are investigating the crash, and said that alcohol and excessive speed were not contributing factors. No charges are currently pending in the case.
