LAS CRUCES, NM – Authorities say four youngsters were arrested after they were in a stolen car that was involved in a crash in Las Cruces Sunday, the Las Cruces Sun News reports.

The four ranged in age from 12 to 17.   Police were alerted to the incident when calls began coming in regarding a reckless driver.  Responding deputies attempted to pull over the vehicle, a Chevy Trailblazer SUV.

Dona Ana County Sheriff Kim Stewart said the driver sped away at speeds of about 80 miles an hour as deputies set out in pursuit.  Three of the occupants got out and fled when the vehicle pulled into Peter Piper Pizza at about 1:40 p.m.  Stewart said the 12-year-old kept driving and went in the wrong direction on Bataan Memorial East before crashing head-on into another vehicle. The other driver, a woman, was injured and transported to Mountain View Medical Center.

The four occupants of the stolen SUV were taken into custody, and the driver was charged with aggravated fleeing and receiving stolen property.
