DEMING, NM – Three people were killed and another was injured in a collision at North Iron Street and W. Second Street in Deming last Thursday, the Deming Headlight reports.
Police said the driver of a Nissan four-door vehicle was going at a high rate of speed at about 1 p.m. and crashed into the back of a Dodge pickup truck at the intersection, with both vehicles flipping from the impact.
The three occupants of the Nissan died in the wreck. The driver, 21-year-old Jasmine Valenzuela and a front seat passenger, 35-year-old Michelle Robertson, were pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger, Michelle’s 18-year-old sister Angel Robertson, passed away Sunday at an El Paso hospital. The three were residents of Deming.
The Dodge driver, 33-year-old Tyler Trusty of Deming, was taken to the Mimbres Memorial Hospital.
Excessive speed and driver inattention are believed to have been contributing factors in the wreck, as police continue their investigation.
