TORRANCE COUNTY, NM — Part of eastbound Interstate 40 was shut down late Thursday morning near Moriarty following a wreck, reports KRQE.
Authorities responded to the scene on the eastbound lanes just west of the city. The incident was first reported by KRQE at 11:28 a.m., when the closure had already been enforced.
It was not immediately clear how many vehicles were impacted and whether anyone was seriously injured, but motorists were asked to avoid the area as crews cleared the scene.
While the cause of the wreck has not been confirmed, KRQE noted that an area snowstorm led to challenging driving conditions, including low visibility, throughout the state.
