ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Several people were injured, one critically, late Friday due to a high-speed crash in Albuquerque’s Taylor Ranch area, reports KOAT.
The collision took place near Montaño Boulevard Northwest and Equestrian Drive Northwest on December 16, at about 11:30 p.m.
Albuquerque Police said a silver 2002 Toyota was heading eastbound in the left lane when it was rear-ended by a 2019 Chevrolet Camaro traveling at a high rate of speed. The impact of the crash sent both vehicles out of control. One Toyota passenger was not wearing a seat belt at the time and was ejected from the vehicle, causing life-threatening injuries.
Officials said the Camaro flipped multiple times before colliding with a cement block wall.
It was unclear exactly how many people were injured, but both drivers and at least two passengers were hospitalized.
An investigation remains in progress, but police believe the driver of the striking car was intoxicated at the time.
