CLOVIS, NM – A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a vehicle in Clovis on Christmas Day, according to the Clovis Police Department.
The fatal crash occurred at the intersection of 21st Street and Prince Street, where Clovis police and first responders arrived at about 6 p.m.
Preliminary information from witnesses indicated a motorcyclist was going south on Prince Street through a green traffic signal when a vehicle made a left-hand turn in front of it. The motorcycle struck the front passenger-side area of the vehicle, causing the rider to be ejected and strike the windshield before landing in the roadway.
The motorcyclist, identified as 22-year-old Malachi Maldonado, was pronounced dead after being airlifted to a hospital in Lubbock, Texas. The driver of the vehicle was taken to Plains Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
The Clovis Police Department Major Crash Team is investigating the collision.
LEE ACRES, NM – A collision in San Juan County last week left one person dead and another injured, KOAT reported.
New Mexico State Police responded to the area of U.S. Highway 64 and County Road 5500 after the Dec. 24 wreck in Lee Acres. NMSP stated that a commercial vehicle and a passenger vehicle collided near McGee Park. No details were released on the identity of the crash victims.
The accident shut down eastbound traffic along U.S. Highway 64/County Road 5500 while westbound traffic was reduced to one lane.
ALBUQUERQUE, NM – A crash caused road closures in a section of northeast Albuquerque on Tuesday morning.
According to an alert from APD Traffic at 10:07 a.m., the incident took place at Academy Road NE and McKinney Drive NE.
Eastbound Academy Road was closed at Seagull Lane NE and westbound Academy Road was shut down at Burlison Drive NE.
The Albuquerque Police Department and Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to the accident scene.
