Man sues New Mexico for crash on Interstate 40 near Carnuel

CARNUEL, NM – According to FOX 13, the state settled a lawsuit filed by a man who was struck by a hit-and-run driver while clearing a crash scene on Interstate 40 near Carnuel on January 28, 2022.

Tommy Avent was working for A-Abuquerque Towing when he was dispatched to help clear a wreck. Avent asked for help from the New Mexico Department of Transportation and the Albuquerque Police Department because it was a dangerous area to operate in. The two agencies allegedly refused to assist Avent.

A driver struck Avent as he was removing the disabled car from the scene. First responders transported AVent to an area hospital with serious injuries. He ended up with nearly $800,000 in medical bills. Court documents show that the state settled the lawsuit for $350.000.

Authorities believe Steven Erb was the driver who hit Avent. He failed to appear in court in 2023 and has a bench warrant issued for his arrest.

Avent died in January of 2024.

2-year-old fatally struck by driver in Edgewood

EDGEWOOD, NM – A driver struck and killed a 2-year-old in the AutoZone parking lot at 1944 Old U.S. Route 66 on Sunday, according to KOB.

The driver hit an uneven spot in the parking, causing the passenger door to open and the child to fall out. The driver then ran over the child.

First responders transported the child to an area hospital, where they died.

The Edgewood Police Department is investigating the incident.

Auto accident clogs traffic on Interstate 25 near Spruce Park

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – According to KKOB Traffic, a crash blocked traffic at Interstate 25 and Dr Martin Luther King Jr Avenue Northeast on Wednesday.

Officials posted about the incident on X at 8:23 a.m.

It is unclear if anyone was hurt in the incident.
