Man sentenced to prison for fatal drunk driving accident in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – A man will be going to prison for a fatal drunk driving crash in Albuquerque in August 2024, KRQE reported.

Edgar Mendoza Silva was sentenced by Judge Cindy Leos to 18.5 years in prison following his conviction by a jury in April of Homicide by Vehicle (Reckless Driving) and Homicide by Vehicle (DWI).

According to Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman, Mendoza Silva was speeding along Central Avenue near 47th Street when he lost control of his truck. He crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a vehicle driven by Carlos Lucero. Lucero died at the scene.

Toxicology reports showed that Mendoza Silva had alcohol, cocaine, and marijuana in his system at the time of the crash.

Crash slows traffic along Interstate 40 in Gallup

GALLUP, NM – A crash was reported to be slowing traffic in a section of McKinley County on Wednesday afternoon.

According to an advisory on NMRoads at 12:54 p.m., the accident happened in the median on Interstate 40 westbound at mile marker 21 near Red Rock Park in Gallup.

Drivers were advised to watch for slow moving traffic, reduce speed, and look out for emergency personnel and vehicles in the area.

Rollover accident blocks northbound Edith Boulevard

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office issued a traffic alert following a wreck late Sunday night.

The notification, posted at 10:45 p.m., stated that northbound Edith Boulevard was closed at Mission due to a rollover crash.

No major injuries were reported at the time, the BCSO said.
