Man sentenced for crash that killed 2 passengers in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – A judge has sentenced a man who pleaded guilty in connection with a fatal accident in Albuquerque in April 2024, according to KRQE.

22-year-old Benjamin Guiang was sentenced to 30 years but 29 of the years were suspended, meaning he will spend the next year on house arrest through Bernalillo County’s community custody program. He will also serve five years probation.

Prosecutors said Guiang was driving in the area of Unser Boulevard and Western Boulevard when he lost control of his car while going around a curve and crashed. Two passengers, Guiang’s cousin and her boyfriend, were ejected from the vehicle and killed. Investigators estimated Guiang was driving at about 108 miles per hour when the wreck occurred.

Guiang pleaded guilty in September to two counts of vehicular homicide while driving while intoxicated. 

Fatality reported in pedestrian collision in Churchrock

CHURCHROCK, NM – Authorities responded to a fatal vehicle vs. pedestrian incident in Churchrock, New Mexico on Wednesday night.

According to the Navajo Police Department, the collision took place on Superman Canyon Road near the White Cliffs trailer park at about 7:30 p.m. No details were immediately released on who had been killed in the incident.

The northbound and southbound lanes were shut down for the emergency response and investigation. Drivers were advised to expect delays and seek alternate routes. All lanes reopened about three hours later.

Accident disrupts traffic along New Mexico 145

HIDALGO COUNTY, NM – A traffic advisory was issued Thursday morning following a crash in Hidalgo County.

According to an alert on NMRoads at 9:51 a.m., the incident occurred on New Mexico 145, near the junction with New Mexico 80 in the southwestern part of the state.

The highway’s east and westbound lanes were shut down from mile marker zero at New Mexico 80 to mile marker 3, three miles of New Mexico 80.
