Man pleads guilty in DUI accident near Shiprock that killed infant

SHIPROCK, NM – A man has pleaded guilty in connection with a fatal DUI crash near Shiprock, New Mexico on April 3, 2024, according to the Los Alamos Daily Post.

37-year-old Dewayne Earl Blackie of Fruitland, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, entered the plea to the federal crime of involuntary manslaughter charge.

Authorities said Blackie was driving on a two-lane highway when he collided with two other vehicles that were pulled over on the right side of the road. A 16-month child was ejected from one of the vehicles and was killed.

The investigation revealed that marijuana and methamphetamines were found in Blackie’s system after the accident. He could face a prison term of up to eight years when he is sentenced, and will be subject to up to three years of supervised release after the sentence is served.

Lanes closed on I-40 in western New Mexico due to crash

GALLUP, NM – A crash was reported to be slowing traffic in an area of western New Mexico on Tuesday afternoon.

According to KOAT, the accident occurred on Interstate 40 about 17 miles east of Gallup, from the Ciniza Refinery Interchange at mile marker 39 to mile marker 43.

Both eastbound lanes of the interstate were shut down while the wreck was being cleared, resulting in significant traffic delays.

Drivers were asked to slow down, use caution, and watch out for emergency responders when traveling through the area.

Wreck causes traffic delays along Paseo del Norte

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Drivers encountered delays in a portion of Bernalillo County on Tuesday afternoon due to a crash, according to the New Mexico Department of Transportion.

An advisory on NMRoads posted at 1:31 p.m. stated that the incident happened on New Mexico 423 eastbound at mile marker 3 (Paseo del Norte)

The right lane and right shoulder of the roadway were shut down at 2nd Street, and eastbound Paseo was reduced to one lane until the crash could be cleared.
