ALBUQUERQUE, NM — A man died Saturday night after a pedestrian crash in east Albuquerque’s Highland Business neighborhood, according to KOB4.

Albuquerque Police responded to the scene at the intersection with San Mateo Boulevard, near the Walgreens store, at about 9:30 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates the male pedestrian was walking south across Central Avenue, outside of a marked crosswalk, when he was hit by a silver Chevy pickup truck heading eastbound.

According to authorities, the driver of the pickup initially left the scene but returned.

An investigation remains ongoing, but the APD said “pedestrian error” appears to have been the cause of the fatal incident. Neither speed nor alcohol are suspected factors.

At this this time, no charges have been filed.
