ROOSEVELT COUNTY, NM — A 22-year-old man was killed early Monday when he was hit by a car after a rollover crash on U.S. 70 near Portales, reports News Channel 10.
The events unfolded on the westbound lanes near South Roosevelt Road 3 at around 2:00 a.m.
According to the New Mexico State Police, the man was behind the wheel of a 2005 Chevy pickup truck when he veered off the roadway, causing the vehicle to flip and eject him.
Moments later, the victim was struck by a passing vehicle. He died from his injuries at the scene.
Officials noted the young man had not been wearing a seat belt at the time of the rollover crash.
It was unclear whether the second driver remained at the scene.
