Man fatally struck by Rail Runner train in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – A pedestrian died after being struck by a Rail Runner express train in Albuquerque on Monday evening, according to KOAT.

The incident took place in the vicinity of Indian School Road NW and 2nd Street NW. Preliminary details indicated that a man was attempting to run from the east side of the tracks to the west shortly before 6 p.m. when a southbound train hit him. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no injuries among the 37 passengers on board the train at the time. Train service was affected in both directions for about two hours. Full service was restored by Tuesday morning.

New Mexico State Police are investigating the fatal accident.

Crash causes lane closures at 2nd Street at Paseo Del Norte

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – An accident caused multiple lane closures in a section of Albuquerque on Wednesday night.

According to a traffic alert from the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office at 7:39 p.m., the vehicle crash took place on northbound 2nd Street near the westbound on-ramp of Paseo Del Norte. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

The westbound on-ramp lanes and one lane of northbound 2nd Street were closed while deputies and emergency crews were responding. All lanes were reopened about an hour later.

Delays reported on I-40 west at Thoreau interchange due to accident

THOREAU, NM – Drivers encountered slow traffic along a stretch of Interstate 40 near the Thoreau interchange Thursday morning due to a crash.

An advisory from NMRoads at 7:01 a.m. stated the wreck happened on I-40 westbound at mile marker 52 in the area of New Mexico 371 and New Mexico 612.

The westbound right lane of the interstate was closed until the accident could be cleared from the roadway. Motorists were advised to drive with caution, reduce speed, and obey all posted traffic signs.
