GRANT COUNTY, NM — A 35-year-old man from Caballo died Sunday afternoon after a single-vehicle rollover accident near south Silver City, reports KOB4.
New Mexico State Police said the fatal wreck took place on a span of White Water Road off of New Mexico State Road 90.
It was unclear what led up to the crash, but investigators said a 2003 Buick was traveling eastbound on the road when it traveled off the roadway and overturned down a dirt embankment.
Officers arrived to find the victim deceased inside the rolled vehicle.
An investigation by NMSP remains ongoing, but officials said the victim was not properly using his seatbelt at the time of the crash, and alcohol may have played a role.
