Man dies after collision involving Farmington police vehicle

FARMINGTON, NM – A man died following a collision involving a Farmington patrol vehicle on Tuesday, according to a KOB report.

 The Farmington Police Department said an officer was looking for a suspect who fled on a bicycle at about 12:15 a.m., and did not see a man lying in the middle of westbound Broadway. The police vehicle struck the man, identified as 46-year-old Ernest Begay, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Though a second officer nearly struck Begay as well, it was determined that the vehicle driven by Officer Jasmine Hernandez was the only one involved in the collision, which is under investigation by the San Juan County Sheriff’s Offce.

“The Farmington Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Ernest during this difficult time,” the department stated.

Crash shuts down lane on Interstate 40 eastbound at Carlisle

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The New Mexico Department of Transportation advised motorists of a crash affecting traffic in Albuquerque on Thursday.

According to to an alert on NMRoads at 5:17 p.m., an accident took place on Interstate 40 eastbound at mile marker 161, near Carlisle Boulevard.

The left lane of the interstate was closed while crews responded to the scene. Drivers were advised to expect traffic delays through the area.

Deputies respond to accident on Highway 380 in Lea County

LEA COUNTY, NM – A crash alert was posted by the Lea County Sheriff’s Office Thursday afternoon following an accident on Highway 380.

The notification shortly before 5 p.m. stated that deputies reported the incident at mile marker 210 of the highway. The westbound lanes were closed to traffic as the wreck was being cleared.

Motorists were urged slow down, watch for any vehicles or emergency personnel, and seek an alternate route.
