Man convicted of leaving scene of Albuquerque crash that killed pedestrian

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – A man has been convicted in connection with the death of a pedestrian in northeast Albuquerque last year, Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman announced.

Nickolis Taber, also known as Andrew Taber, was found guilty by a jury for the incident that took place on April 10, 2025 at Truman Street NE and Central Avenue.

Bregman said video evidence showed Taber struck the victim, Tyler Juan, then got out, observed the scene, remained briefly, and then left. He later contacted police about six hours afterward.

The jury convicted Taber of Leaving the Scene of an Accident (Great Bodily Harm or Death).

Sentencing will take place at a later date.

Crash slows traffic along New Mexico 423 eastbound

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – A crash was reported to be slowing traffic in a section of Albuquerque during Thursday morning’s commute.

According to an advisory on NMRoads shortly after 9:30 a.m., the accident occurred on New Mexico 423 eastbound at mile marker 4, in the vicinity of Paseo Del Norte and Jefferson Street.

The right lane and right shoulder were closed while emergency crews responded. Drivers were advised to expect delays and use caution in the area.

I-40 eastbound closed at Sedillo Hill due to accident

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – A stretch of Interstate 40 in Bernalillo County was shut down Tuesday night due to a vehicle crash.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office posted an alert at 10:12 p.m. stating that I-40 eastbound was closed at mile marker 180 at Sedillo Hill. No major injuries were reported.

Traffic was being diverted while the scene was being cleared and investigated.
