Man charged in hit-and-run that killed pedestrian near Chimayo

CHIMAYO, NM – New Mexico State Police said they have arrested the alleged driver in a hit-and-run incident that killed a pedestrian last week, the Santa Fe New Mexican reports.

50-year-old Marty Sherwood of Chimayó faces felony charges of failing to provide information and render aid in a crash causing great bodily harm, and knowingly leaving the scene of an accident.,

The collision occurred early Friday morning on New Mexico 76 near the intersection with County Road 1430. The pedestrian, identified as 79-year-old Jose Martinez, died at the scene after being hit by a pickup truck.

A witness described seeing a Ford Ranger strike Martinez and continue heading east on New Mexico 76. The witness told police the driver could be seen pulling into a driveway, getting out to inspect the vehicle, and then driving down the highway. The pickup was later found parked in the driveway of a house in Chimayo where Sherwood was located and arrested shortly after 3 a.m, NMSP said.

The fatal collision remains under investigation.

Motorcycle accident blocks New Mexico 333 in both directions

BERNALILLO COUNTY, NM – The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office was called to a motorcycle accident in the East Mountains area late Sunday night.

The BCSO released a traffic alert at about 10:30 p.m. reporting a motorcycle crash with injuries. The incident shut down New Mexico 333 in both directions near Tunnel Canyon, south of Tijeras.

Drivers were urged to plan their route accordingly when traveling through the area. The roadway was reopened about two hours later.

No details were immediately released on who had been injured.

Vehicle crashes through wall of Albuquerque restaurant building

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The owners of an Albuquerque restaurant had to make alternate plans to keep operating after a crash damaged their business last month, according to a KOB report.

Isleta Grill, located off of Broadway near Interstate 25, is now serving customers from a food truck while repairs continue.

Their restaurant was forced to shut down when a vehicle crashed through the wall of their building and damaged a gas line. It will remain closed until further notice.
