SANDOVAL COUNTY, NM – According to KRQE, New Mexico State Police arrested an alleged hit-and-run driver for fatally colliding with a traffic control worker on Hwy 550 on Aug. 2.
Jerrold Patton, 65, allegedly drove into a blocked-off section of northbound Hwy 550 and struck Nathan Gonzales around 3:19 p.m.
Following the collision, Patton allegedly left the scene and was arrested 45 miles away on the highway by an officer who recognized the vehicle’s description.
The officer found blood on Patton’s vehicle and damage to the front passenger side.
Patton said he thought he hit something that had fallen from a truck in front of him. He also said he pulled over to check his car for damage.
The officer determined Patton was not impaired.
Authorities arrested Patton and charged him with knowingly leaving the scene of an accident (great bodily harm or death), operation of a vehicle on approach of emergency vehicle, and careless driving. Patton was booked into the Sandoval County Detention Center. He was released on Aug. 5. His first court appearance is on Aug. 26.
Driver fatally crashes into tree near Downtown
ALBUQUERQUE, NM – A driver died after slamming into a tree near Central Ave SE & Elm St SE on Monday morning, according to KRQE.
The driver of a black Mitsubishi was heading east on Central Ave SE when he went across westbound lanes and plowed into a tree around 3 a.m.
Rescue crews pronounced the driver dead at the scene. He was the only person in the vehicle.
Wreck reported in north Santa Fe
SANTA FE, NM – According to NMRoads, a traffic accident was reported on US 84 at mile marker 166 on Monday.
The incident happened around 11:18 a.m.
It is unclear if anyone was hurt in the collision.
