Hit-and-run driver fatally collides with bicyclist in southern New Mexico

DEMING, NM – According to KOAT, a hit-and-run driver struck and killed a bicyclist on NM 11 near mile marker 8 on Saturday.

Noel Ronquillo Jr., 33, was allegedly driving a red vehicle when he ran over Kevin O’Leary, 69, as O’Leary was riding a bike around 1 p.m. Ronquillo then reportedly left the scene.

New Mexico State Police used their License plate recognition system to identify the vehicle.

Border Patrol informed state police that a vehicle like Ronquillo’s crossed into Mexico.

Troopers charged Ronquillo with involuntary manslaughter and knowingly leaving the scene of an accident. They took him into custody on Monday.

18-year-old dies in single-vehicle crash on Hidalgo Rural Rd in Eddy County

EDDY COUNTY, NM – An 18-year-old died in a single-vehicle collision on Hidalgo Rural Rd near Dark Canyon Rd on Wednesday, according to KRQE.

Jiovanni Nevaeh Melendrez was heading south on Hidalgo Rural Rd when he strayed off the road and rolled over around 2:15 a.m. Melendrez was thrown from the vehicle during the crash.

First responders pronounced Melendrez dead at the scene.

Authorities believe impairment and speed may have played a role in the wreck.

The Eddy County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.

Driver collides with pedestrian in North Valley

NORTH VALLEY, NM – According to BCSO, a driver hit a pedestrian near Edith Blvd NE and Montaño Rd NE on Monday.

The driver struck the victim around 11:53 a.m.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
