ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Property damage was reported Sunday night after a car landed on a school playground in Albuquerque’s Old Town neighborhood, reports KOB4.
The incident occurred at San Felipe de Neri School, a Catholic school where students are enrolled pre-K through eighth grade. A witness reported it to Albuquerque Police just before 8:00 p.m.
Few details have been released, but an early investigation indicates a driver in a Honda Civic coupe crashed through a fence and onto the school playground.
The school principal said because the crash happened during holiday break, no one was on the playground at the time. However, the costs in property damage to the school are expected to be considerable if the vehicle turns out to be stolen, or if the driver does not have insurance.
At this time, Albuquerque Police continue to search for the driver or possible passengers. It remains unclear at this time whether speed or alcohol contributed to the wreck.
