Gallup woman sentenced for DUI crash that killed her son

GALLUP, NM – According to KRQE, a woman was sentenced in federal court for a drunk driving collision that took the life of her 8-month-old son on Feb. 11, 2022.

Mariah Chapo, 27, was driving while drunk at high speeds when she failed to negotiate a turn and rolled her vehicle up a dirt embankment.

Chapo’s son was unsecured in the back seat. He was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. Rescue crews pronounced him dead at the scene.

First responders found an empty vodka bottle in the vehicle. Chapo’s blood alcohol content was above the legal limit.

Chapo pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter. She will serve five years of probation.

Motorcyclist crashes near Sunport Park

SOUTH VALLEY, NM – A motorcycle collision closed down the intersection at Broadway Blvd SE and Rio Bravo Blvd SE on Wednesday, according to BCSO.

The motorcyclist crashed around 5:11 a.m.

It is unclear if anyone was hurt in the incident.

Wreck disrupts traffic on I-25

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – According to BCSO, a crash blocked traffic on the I-25 on-ramp to Rio Bravo Blvd SE on Tuesday.

The incident happened around 1:33 p.m.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
