RIO RANCHO, NM – The Rio Rancho Police Department has released its report on a fatal collision that occurred earlier this month, reports the Rio Rancho Observer.
The report cites witness accounts of two vehicles street racing in connection with the April 4 crash in the area of New Mexico 528 and Corrales Road.
The preliminary investigation indicated that two vehicles were stopped at the intersection of NM 528 and Northern Boulevard at a red light. When the light turned green, both vehicles accelerated rapidly, causing one of the car’s tires to spin out. The vehicles continued north toward Corrales Road, where another vehicle attempted to turn left from southbound NM 528 and was struck in the roadway.
One of the racing vehicles rolled multiple times and landed on its passenger side. The driver, identified as 25-year-old Noah C. De Baca of Albuquerque, died at the scene. The other driver who had been stopped at the light allegedly admitted to police that they had been speeding from the Northern Boulevard intersection.
The witnesses who reported seeing the two cars racing estimated they were going at over 100 miles per hour.
