Fatal rollover crash reported on Highway 70 in Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES, NM – State and local police investigated a fatal rollover accident on Highway 70 in Las Cruces on Tuesday morning.

According to a Facebook post from the Las Cruces Police Department, the wreck took place in the eastbound lanes of the highway at about 7:30 a.m.

Preliminary information indicated that the driver of a pickup may have suffered a medical episode that led to his vehicle striking the cable barriers that divide the highway. The pickup then struck another eastbound vehicle. No injuries were reported in the second vehicle.

A portion of eastbound Highway 70, between Sonoma Ranch Boulevard and Mesa Grande Boulevard was closed for about three hours during the accident response and investigation. Traffic was detoured off the highway at Sonoma Ranch Boulevard.

Multiple accidents disrupt traffic on I-25 south of Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Multiple accidents were slowing down traffic along a stretch of Interstate 25 south of Albuquerque on Wednesday morning.

In an alert posted at 9:16 a.m., the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office said it was responding to three separate crashes on the interstate. I-25 northbound was reduced to one lane near Isleta Boulevard while the area was being cleared.

No major injuries were reported in the incidents.

Driver crashes on State Road 2 after falling asleep at wheel

CHAVES COUNTY, NM – Deputies with the Chaves County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle wreck that left a driver injured.

According to a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office, a male caller called 911 Friday night to report he had crashed in the area of State Road 2 and Jackson Road and may have rolled his car.

Deputies arrived at about 9 p.m. and determined that the man had fallen asleep at the wheel and driven off the roadway. The vehicle struck a concrete culvert and ramped into a dirt embankment near the railroad tracks.

The driver was transported to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.
