Family awarded millions for fatal Chaparral crash in 2023

CHAPARRAL, NM – According to KTSM, a family has been awarded millions for a deadly hit-and-run collision that occurred on New Mexico 213 near mile marker 1 on January 17, 2023.

James Patrick Woods was driving north on New Mexico 213 at high speeds when he strayed into the southbound lanes and hit a vehicle driven by Jose Marreo, 20, with Desiree Seanez, 20, as a passenger around 5:25 p.m. Woods’ vehicle then went airborne and hit a third vehicle head-on.

Marreo and Seanez died in the collision.

Following the collision, Woods fled the scene on foot. Authorities located Woods and arrested him.

Authorities charged Woods with two counts of homicide by vehicle, failure to render aid, resisting and evading arrest, immediate notice of an accident, and open container.

A jury later determined that Woods “was acting within the course and scope of his employment at the time of the crash.” Woods’ employer was View Homes.

A jury awarded the victims’ families $190 million on Tuesday.

Auto accident disrupts traffic on US 285 near Seven Rivers

SEVEN RIVERS, NM – A crash blocked traffic on US 285 southbound near mile marker 48 Friday morning, according to NMRoads.

Emergency crews responded to the incident around 7:01 a.m.

Officials have not released additional information.

Wreck reported near Rio Grande

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – According to NMRoads, a crash was reported on Interstate 40 eastbound near mile marker 156 Friday morning.

The incident occurred around 8:25 a.m.

It is unclear if anyone was hurt in the collision.
