LEA COUNTY, NM – A section of New Mexico Road 18 was shut down Friday night, December 13, near Lovington following a crash, according to NM Roads.
The incident occurred on the northbound highway (Main Street/Hobbs Highway) at mile marker 69, south of East Gilmore Street. It was first recorded in the NM Roads map index at 9:33 p.m.
As of this writing, local officials have not specified the cause or nature of the collision, but motorists were warned of delays in the area and instructed to make space for emergency vehicles. Alternate routes around the scene were recommended.
No serious injuries and/or hospitalization were immediately reported.
CHAVES COUNTY, NM – A section of New Mexico State Road 409 near southeast Roswell is expected to remain closed into the next year due to flood damage, according to NM Roads.
The notice was first added to the NM Roads map index on Wednesday, December 4, at 9:37 a.m.
On Friday, December 13, officials announced an extension of the closure, which impacts NM-409 between mile markers 9 and 10, north of Bottomless State Park. Those in the community and beyond were told that the span of highway won’t be reopening until early January 2025, as further assessments are still needed.
Motorists passing through the area are asked to take extra caution and slow down.
CIBOLA COUNTY, NM – A two-mile span of eastbound Interstate 40 near Mesita will be impacted by a lane closure over the weekend due to road maintenance, according to NM Roads.
NMDOT officials said the event concerns the eastbound right lane of I-40 between mile markers 119 and 121, about 28 miles west of Albuquerque. The closure was first announced on Friday, December 13, at 8:37 a.m., is not anticipated to lift until at least 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 15, 2024.
Motorists are asked to heed traffic signs, slow down and travel through the area with extra caution as work continues to be performed.
