DWI suspect arrested after sideswiping guardrail on I-25 near Santa Fe

SANTA FE COUNTY, NM — A 25-year-old man was arrested for suspected DWI Wednesday after a crash on Interstate 25 near southwest Santa Fe, according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident took place on a stretch of I-25 at milepost 265, just north of New Mexico State Road 16.

The preliminary accident report indicates Michael Leal, a 25-year-old Santa Fe resident, was pulled over after he was seen sideswiping a guardrail in the area.

While no injuries were reported, the male driver was taken into custody after displaying signs of impairment at the scene. The suspect, who provided a breath sample of .18 BrAC, in excess of the legal level, was booked into the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Facility.
