SANTA FE COUNTY, NM — A 33-year-old man was arrested last Sunday, August 27, for suspected intoxication after a crash near south Chimayo, according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office.
The wreck occurred in the 100 block of Juan Medina Road (High Road to Taos/County Road 98), north of Cundiyo Road (New Mexico State Road 503).
A preliminary investigation indicates the suspect, identified as Daniel Sam, of Picuris Pueblo, was operating a vehicle when he tried to pass another driver in a no-passing zone. Moments later, Sam lost control of his vehicle, causing it to overturn into a guardrail.
Responding deputies observed that Sam, who was transported to Espanola Hospital for unspecified injuries, displayed signs of intoxication at the scene. After refusing to comply to any testing, he was taken into custody. Following a medical clearance, he was taken to Santa Fe Adult Detention Center (SFADC).
No other occupants or vehicles appear to have been involved.
