Driver strikes, kills man in wheelchair near Highland Business

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – According to KOB, a driver fatally collided with a man in a wheelchair who was crossing the street near San Mateo Blvd SE and Central Ave SE on Monday night.

The driver was heading south on San Mateo Blvd SE and turned left to go east on Central Ave SE when he spotted a man in a wheelchair crossing Central from north to south. The driver attempted to swerve to avoid hitting the man but failed.

First responders pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. He did not have an ID on him and has not been identified.

Authorities determined impairment and speed were not factors in the collision. They believe pedestrian error caused the crash.

The Albuquerque Police Department is investigating the incident.

The incident happened around 4:28 p.m.

It is unclear if anyone was hurt in the collision.

Emergency crews respond to crash near Hachita

HACHITA, NM – According to NMRoads, first responders were called to the scene of an accident on NM 9 near Hachita on Tuesday.

Dispatchers received calls concerning the incident around 9:42 a.m.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
