Driver sought in hit-and-run collision that killed bicyclist in Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES, NM – Authorities are continuing their search for the driver involved in a hit-and-run that killed a bicycle rider in Las Cruces earlier this month, according to KFOX.

The bicyclist was struck by a vehicle Jan. 9 shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Holman Road near Barksdale Loop. The rider suffered fatal injuries. Police believe the bicycle and the vehicle were both headed north at the time of the collision.

The driver of the vehicle was reported to have turned around and fled the scene going southbound after the crash.

The Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office and Crime Stoppers of Las Cruces are now offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect. The vehicle was described as a white truck with cab and side marker lights.

Crash closes lanes on westbound Paseo Del Norte

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Drivers were alerted to an accident causing road closures in Albuquerque on Thursday night.

According to a traffic advisory from the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office at 8:07 p.m., deputies were working the scene of a crash on westbound Paseo Del Norte, just west of 2nd Street.

Two lanes of westbound Paseo Del Norte were closed in the area. Drivers were advised to expect delays through the area as traffic was reduced to one lane.

Police officer injured in accident on icy road in Chaves County

CHAVES COUNTY, NM – Authorities responded to a crash involving a police officer in Chaves County on Monday evening.

The Chaves County Sheriff’s Office reported that the single-vehicle accident occurred in the area of Chickasaw Road and Wichita Road.

Deputies learned that a Hagerman police officer lost control of his patrol unit on the ice. The patrol unit slid off the roadway and crashed, deploying the air bags. The officer was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
