RIO RANCHO, NM — A driver suspected of DUI was injured Monday when their car overturned in a multi-vehicle wreck near northwest Rio Rancho, reports Rio Rancho Observer.
Rio Rancho Police responded to the scene at the corner of Unser Boulevard and Southern Boulevard shortly after 9:00 a.m.
According to officials, the driver was traveling eastbound on Southern Boulevard when, for unknown reasons, they collided with a median and a traffic light at Premiere Parkway. The impact of the crash knocked down the light as the vehicle continued through the intersection with Unser Boulevard.
The vehicle hit two other vehicles before running across a stretch of landscaping. Moments later, it traveled into a parking lot where it came to rest upside-down against a parked vehicle.
Medics transported the causing driver to a nearby hospital with injuries considered non-life-threatening.
Although three other vehicles were involved, no one else was reported hurt.
Authorities said the causing driver has been issued a criminal summons for multiple charges, including “aggravated DUI” and “reckless driving.”
