Driver killed in collision with semi-truck at US Highway 62/180

LEA COUNTY, NM – A driver was killed in a collision with a semi-truck last week at the intersection of US Highway 62/180 and WIPP Road, the Lea County Sheriff’s Office said.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the incident Dec. 17 at about 5:13 p.m. They arrived to find a Kenworth semi-truck in the median facing northbound and a Ford F-250 facing southeast on the eastbound side of the roadway.

A preliminary investigation found that driver of the Ford F-250 was traveling north on WIPP Road and failed to stop at the posted stop sign at the intersection. The vehicle was struck by the semi-truck, which was traveling eastbound on US 62/180.

The driver of the Ford F-250, identified as Alec Standiford, 34, of Carlsbad, New Mexico, was killed.

The Lea County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division is investigating the cause of the fatal wreck.

Accident restricts traffic on US 550 near Cuba

CUBA, NM – Emergency crews were dispatched to a crash in Sandoval County on Wednesday morning.

An advisory on NMRoads at 11:47 a.m. reported that the accident took place on U.S. 550 northbound at mile marker 68, four miles north of Cuba. The northbound right lane was blocked until the scene could be cleared.

Drivers were advised to slow down, drive with caution, and obey all posted traffic signs.

Traffic diverted following crash on Interstate 40 eastbound

BERNALILLO COUNTY, NM – A traffic alert was issued by the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office following an accident on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident, reported at 4:36 p.m., occurred along Interstate 40 eastbound at the 147 exit. The #1 and #2 lanes while authorities responded to the wreck.

Traffic was diverted through the shoulder of the interstate. Motorists were urged to use caution in the area. All lanes were reported reopened shortly after 6 p.m.
