Driver killed in Albuquerque crash after going through red light

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – A driver was killed in a three-vehicle collision in northeast Albuquerque last week, according to a KOAT report.

Albuquerque police officers responded to the area of Layton Avenue NE and Eubank Boulevard after the May 14 wreck.

A preliminary investigation found that the driver of a Kia sedan was heading east on Layton Avenue and stopped at a red light to turn onto Eubank Boulevard.  The Kia quickly accelerated into the intersection against a solid red light and was T-boned by a Jeep that entered the intersection from southbound Eubank.

The Jeep continued southbound, veered to the left and collided with a Volkswagen waiting to turn at the intersection.

The Kia driver was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.  The Jeep driver, who stayed at the scene sustained minor injuries.  The Volkswagen driver was not injured.

The Albuquerque Police Department said the main cause of the crash was the Kia driver disregarding the red light.

Injuries reported in rollover accident on Interstate 25

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office issued a traffic alert following an accident in Albuquerque on Tuesday morning.

The advisory at 9:53 a.m. stated that a rollover crash occurred on Interstate 25 southbound.  Injuries were reported, though no details were released on who had been hurt.

Southbound I-25 was closed at Rio Bravo Boulevard while deputies and first responders worked the scene.  Drivers were advised to use Broadway Boulevard as an alternate route. The roadway was reopened about two hours later.

Westbound Interstate 40 closed down due to crash

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Motorists were alerted to a crash that slowed traffic along a portion of Interstate 40 in Albuquerque on Tuesday morning, KOB reported.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation said the accident occurred on westbound I-40 in the area of San Mateo Boulevard.

The westbound lanes were shut down at about 9:16 a.m. while emergency crews responded, causing delays as far back as Lomas Boulevard.
