SUNLAND PARK, NM – According to KRQE, a driver killed one pedestrian and injured another at Sunland Park Drive and Appaloosa Drive on July 3.

First responders pronounced one of the pedestrians, Graciela Sahs, dead at the scene. The other pedestrian was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Troopers located the Ford Ranger under a tarp at a home in Sunland Park. The damage to the vehicle was consistent with findings from the crash site.
Vasquez reportedly told troopers he thought he had hit a dog and did not stop because he was tired. He admitted to covering up the damage to the vehicle with a tarp.
Authorities charged Vasquez with homicide by vehicle, knowingly leaving the scene of an accident with great bodily harm or death, failure to give information and render aid, failure to give immediate notice of an accident, and tampering with evidence.
