Driver dies following collision on New Mexico 83 in Lovington

LOVINGTON, NM – A driver was killed in a two-vehicle collision on New Mexico Highway 83 in Lovington on Saturday evening, according to the Lea County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the scene near South Ponderosa Lane after the incident happened at about 6:32 p.m. They found a 2004 Ford F-250 positioned across both the eastbound and westbound lanes with front-end damage consistent with a head-on crash. A second vehicle, a 2015 GMC Yukon, was found with front-end damage in a ditch along Highway 83.

Authorities said the driver of the GMC, 45-year-old Domingo Chavarria Jr. of Lovington, suffered fatal injuries.

The sheriff’s office Traffic Division is investigating the fatal wreck.

Crash slows traffic on Interstate 40 east of Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Traffic was slowed along Interstate 40 during Thursday morning’s commute due to an accident.

According to an alert from NMRoads at 5:07 a.m., the crash took place on I-40 eastbound at mile marker 171, one mile east of Albuquerque.

The left lane of the interstate was shut down while emergency crews were clearing the roadway. Drivers were advised to expect delays through the area.

Lane blocked on I-25 in Colfax County due to accident

COLFAX COUNTY, NM – The Colfax County Sheriff’s Office alerted motorists to a crash affecting traffic on Interstate 25 Thursday morning.

The advisory, issued shortly after 9:30 a.m., stated that the incident occurred on southbound I-25 at mile marker 436.

The southbound lane of the interstate was closed during the accident response. Drivers were advised to plan for significant delays, seek alternate routes, and use caution when approaching the area.
