SOCORRO COUNTY, NM — A 33-year-old man was killed Sunday night in a single-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 25 near Lemitar, according to KRQE.
New Mexico State Police responded to the scene on the northbound interstate at mile post 160, north of Socorro, at about 7:45 p.m.
According to officials, the man was behind the wheel of a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado heading northbound when, for reasons still being investigated, he left the roadway and traveled into a dirt median. As the pickup truck re-entered the roadway, it crossed the entire northbound interstate before rolling.
The driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was thrown from the vehicle.
Officials confirmed the victim, a Los Lunas resident, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.
The cause of the crash has not been released at this time, but an investigation remains ongoing. NMSP said alcohol does not appear to have played a role in the accident.
