Driver charged with DWI in death of pedestrian in Santa Fe

SANTA FE, NM – A driver was arrested in connection with the death of a pedestrian in Santa Fe early Sunday morning, the Santa Fe Police Department reported.

Police responded to a report of a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision near the intersection of Agua Fria Street and Cottonwood Drive at about 2:05 a.m. Officers arrived to find the driver and the injured male pedestrian.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital. The driver, identified as 23-year-old Ana Reyes of Santa Fe, was not injured and stayed at the scene. Police said she was observed by officers to have signs of impairment and was suspected of driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor and drugs.

Reyes was subsequently arrested and charged with Homicide by Vehicle (Driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or any drug).

The Traffic Unit and the Crime Scene Unit were summoned to the scene to investigate and process the scene for evidence.

Clovis police officer involved in crash while responding to call

CLOVIS, NM – A Clovis police officer was involved in a vehicle collision while responding to a call on Friday night.

According to a post from Police Chief Trevor Thron, the incident took place near the intersection of 21st and Main Street at about 8:30 p.m. The officer had lights and sirens on while heading to an overdose call and struck a passenger vehicle going through the intersection.

The impact caused the patrol unit to roll over, but no one was seriously injured in the incident.

Deputies respond to rollover accident in Chaves County

CHAVES COUNTY, NM – The Chaves County Sheriff’s Office released information regarding a single-vehicle rollover accident that occurred last week.

According to Undersheriff Charles B. Yslas, deputies responded to the intersection of Old Dexter Highway and Hobson Road April 17.

An investigation determined that the vehicle experienced a tire blowout, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle subsequently rolled multiple times. The driver refused medical treatment at the scene.
