Suspect arrested following fatal DWI crash on Interstate 10

LUNA COUNTY, NM – A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal crash in Luna County early Friday morning, according to a New Mexico State Police Facebook post.

At about 1:39 a.m., law enforcement agencies were advised to be on the lookout for a wrong-way driver on Interstate 10 near milepost 123. It was reported that the vehicle had crashed into two other vehicles while traveling in the wrong direction on the interstate.

State Police arrived to find that one of the drivers struck in the crash was trapped in their vehicle. The driver was extricated but was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital. Another occupant of the vehicle was hospitalized.

The wrong-way driver, identified by authorities as 31-year-old Artem Durnov of Russia, was found to be under the influence at the time of the accident, according to NMSP.

He was arrested on multiple charges, including Homicide by Vehicle – Negligent Manslaughter (DWI), DWI (Drugs), and Reckless Driving.

Man struck, killed by recreational vehicle in Valencia County

VALENCIA COUNTY, NM – A man was struck and killed by a recreational vehicle in Valencia County on Saturday night, KRQE reported.

The incident occurred in the area of Square Deal Road and Cielo Vista Road. Authorities found the victim, identified as Gerald Marquez Jr., dead at that location after having been hit by a vehicle.

An investigation determined that that an RV had been seen in the area, and the vehicle was then linked to Dejohni Orndorff., who was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the fatal collision.

The sheriff’s office said she had an argument with the victim earlier that night.

Accident causes lane closures in northwest Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a crash in northwest Albuquerque on Thursday night.

According to a BCSO traffic alert at 10:05 p.m., all lanes were closed in the area of 2nd Street NW and El Pueblo Road NW as a result of the accident.

No major injuries were reported.
