DOÑA ANA COUNTY, NM — A 50-year-old cyclist was airlifted to a hospital Wednesday morning after colliding with a vehicle at an intersection in Las Cruces, reports KRQE.
The incident took place in the area of South Solano Drive and East Lohman Avenue. It was first reported by KRQE shortly after 11:00 a.m.
Las Cruces Police said the victim was riding a bike on Lohman Avenue when they ran a stop sign at the intersection with Solano Drive. Witnesses said the cyclist had continued riding through the intersection, failing to dismount the bike. Moments later, the cyclist collided with the driver’s side of an SUV, which was heading south on Solano Drive during a green light.
First responders had the cyclist flown to an El Paso hospital, where the patient was listed in critical condition.
The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with responding officers. No pending charges have been reported at this time.
