DOÑA ANA COUNTY, NM — A 70-year-old man died Saturday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle in Las Cruces, according to KOAT.
The Las Cruces Police Department said the fatal incident occurred on Melendres Street at around 12:00 p.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates the suspect, 39-year-old Vianey Adams, was driving northbound when her vehicle sideswiped a parked car and then hit the cyclist, who was traveling in the opposite direction.
Authorities said Adams, who had her 3-year-old son in the vehicle at the time, attempted to flee the scene but a bystander intervened. It was later discovered that the female driver was responsible for a separate hit-and-run collision that occurred minutes before the fatal crash.
Adams was arrested at the scene and now faces multiple charges, including “vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, reckless driving, child abuse, and three counts of leaving the scene of a crash.”
