Cyclist dies after hit-and-run crash on County Rd K in Curry County

CURRY COUNTY, NM — A woman died last Thursday night, November 24, after being struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle in Curry County, according to KOAT.

The Curry County Sheriff’s Office said the fatal incident occurred on a stretch of County Road K on November 23, shortly before 8:00 p.m.

Preliminary details show that the victim, Dawn Dozier, was on a bike when she was hit by a vehicle whose driver left the scene without stopping.

Deputies confirmed Dozier died as a result of injuries suffered in the event.

Following an investigation, officials were able to locate and arrest the suspect, Fernando Chavez-Molina, a Clovis resident. He was booked into the Curry County Detention Center and has been charged with “leaving the scene of the crash.”
