Crash closes section of Oklahoma 18 near Hobbs

HOBBS, NM – According to KOAT, a wreck shut down a section of Oklahoma 18 near mile marker 48, causing delays for commuters Monday evening.

The incident had both the northbound and southbound lanes of the highway blocked at around 5:20 p.m.

It is unclear at this time if anyone was hurt in the collision.

The Lea County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident. Motorists in the area were asked to avoid the scene and find alternate routes.

Police release update on deadly crash at Santa Fe Place Mall

SANTA FE, NM – Officials have released an update on the fatal auto vs. pedestrian collision that occurred outside the Santa Fe Place Mall on March 24, according to KRQE.

While the original crash report indicated “no driver error” as a contributing factor, police now say that the report was released prematurely.

A city employee in a Honda Civic allegedly put the vehicle in drive instead of reverse before hitting the gas pedal, which caused the Civic to go over a curb and strike a bench that Harley Smith, 75, was sitting on. Smith was fatally injured in the crash and died at the scene.

The Santa Fe Police Department says the final determination of the cause of the accident will be made once the investigation is finished. This may take several weeks.

Emergency crews respond to crash on US 60 near Quemado

QUEMADO, NM – According to NMRoads, first responders were called to the scene of an accident on US 60 eastbound near mile marker 33 Monday morning.

Dispatchers received calls concerning the incident around 9:42 a.m.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
